Ever have a great idea, never do anything about it, and then months later find that someone else had the same idea and ran with it? Several times in the past couple of years I’ve thought to myself how convenient it would be to buy a whole birthday decorating kit with balloons and have the whole thing show up in a box. Then I found Birthday in a Box – a smart bunch of people who actually follow through on their ideas!

Girl's First Birthday Decorations

They offer all kinds of birthday decorating kits for children’s birthdays. You can get personalized decorations and invitations, banners, balloons, cups, plates, eating utensils, napkins and party favors. Pick the theme you like (they have great 1st birthday theme kits), order and take the box with you when you’re ready to set up for the birthday party. I happen to think this Girls’s 1st Birthday Party Deluxe Box is awfully cute but they have lots of different themes for both boys and girls. Even popular character packages! They’ve really thought of everything.

Besides the sheer simplicity and time-saving benefit of being able to buy a birthday box like this, I think it’s such a great way for long-distance family to participate in a child’s birthday. Let’s say you are Grandma or Grandpa to a little toddler who lives thousands of miles away and you can’t make your grandchild’s birthday party. It happens – a lot! You could send a birthday kit, beg for pictures (maybe that’s just my own mom and dad who have to do that – I’m horrible!) and still have been involved. You can even shop online together, you and the child’s mother or father, and find the theme best suited for the event. Then at least you know what the decorations are going to look like so if you wanted to pick a present that matched the theme or coordinating wrapping paper for a present you might send you’d know exactly what it should look like.

I think this is particularly relevant in today’s economy and with families often spread about the country (or world). Young parents with young children have lots of expenses on their hands and we’re all stretching our budgets right now. No one wants to skip on a child’s birthday but sometimes that’s just the sort of tough decision we have to make. Maybe you even have a friend you know is struggling and has a child’s birthday coming up. For as little as $30 you can send an entire birthday decorations box and take one little worry off their hands. What a world we live in today!
