Just a reminder that the end of October doesn’t bring just Halloween, it brings the start of the World Series, so it’s time for some baseball balloons, birthdays, and talk of our favorite teams.

Baseball Party Supplies

Baseball Party Supplies

There are lots of baseball themed birthday party supplies and balloons and many do not mention the word birthday on them, making them perfect decoration ideas for baseball or World Series parties. This birthday kit comes with plates, napkins and all sorts of baseball themed decorations.

Add in some traditional baseball snacks and large, Mylar baseball balloons, some inflatable bats so kids (or adults) can play balloon baseball inside or out.

Serve lots of finger food like club sandwiches, chips served in a Baseball Glove Chip & Dip Bowl, cold drinks, warm pretzels, and cookies.  Pull up a chair and get ready to see who wins the World Series this year.

Invite your friends early because every one who is into baseball will be making all kinds of plans throughout the series in order to watch.  It’s a busy time of year!

This was my grandfather’s favorite time of year. Born in New York in the early 1900’s, he was destined for a life on the field back when baseball was not a career as much as a passion – a magnet for athletic men with aspirations of playing with the all-time greats in baseball. They were inspired by something as simple as hitting and tossing a ball and yet something as complicated as maneuvering their players around bases ahead of their opponents. My grandfather simply wanted to play.

He was sidetracked by an eye injury which I recall came from having purposefully prompted a train conductor to throw coal at him after throwing branches at a passing train in order to gather fuel for the family during grim times. I may have romanticized the story in my head, because running alongside that memory is one that says he was simply doing yard work on his family’s property. In either case, I believe a stick was involved and my grandfather lost an eye. He would go on to play regardless, gaining some notoriety in his neck of the woods but never making it past the farm-level teams in that day and age.

To my knowledge, he never complained. He was not that kind of man. He went on and did something else and raised a wonderful family. He was an incredible grandfather and this time of year only brings warm, fond memories. He was born on October 27, 1914. The World Series kicks off this year on October 28th. I know my grandfather will be watching because nothing ever prevented him from watching his favorite sport.
